Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of\u00a0<\/strong>Genocide General Assembly resolution 260 A (III) of 9 December 1948\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Genocide is a crime under international law, contrary to the spirit and aims of the United Nations and condemned by the civilized world,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is agreed that:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Article I<\/strong><\/p>\n

That genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Article II<\/strong><\/p>\n

Genocide means any of the following acts committed with <\/strong>intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as\u00a0<\/strong>such:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

(a) Killing members of the group;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its\u00a0<\/strong>physical destruction in whole or in part;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Article III<\/strong><\/p>\n

The following acts shall be punishable:<\/strong><\/p>\n

(a) Genocide;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(b) Conspiracy to commit genocide;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(d) Attempt to commit genocide;<\/strong><\/p>\n

(e) Complicity in genocide.<\/strong><\/p>\n
