It is here at McGill that Mohawk Mothers have an ongoing court battle to search for graves of Native children at the hospital where the CIA conducted MK-Ultra torture experiments.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">Among those who were involved in the series of films in the project were Debra White Plume and Olowan Sara Martinez, our Oglala Lakota friends of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, now in the Spirit World. Their bold stance as defenders of the water and people was manifest at the Red Warrior Camp at Standing Rock, during the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">At McGill University, the event<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0included the co-editors of the book,\u00a0<i>The Mohawk Warrior Society: A Handbook on Sovereignty and Survival,<\/i>\u00a0with Philippe Blouin and Kahentinehta Rotiskarewake.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0T<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">he film showing was given a small room by the university in an obvious attempt to limit the number attending.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">&#8216;Spaces of Exception&#8217; is the latest in a series of films, which began with &#8216;We Love Being Lakota.&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">Alex White Plume says that the ancient people, the Palestinians, and Native people have been oppressed in the same way. &#8220;They are committing genocide after genocide over there.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">Debra White Plume says the connection goes beyond solidarity.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">&#8220;It is a spiritual connection.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">Debra said that the genocide is rooted in the quest of the oppressors to separate the people, for occupation, and to take the minerals and the land &#8212; both in Palestine and on this continent.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">Matt Peterson and Malek Rasamny, who co-edited\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/blog\/post\/edit\/2039650298276806223\/3551631281962280055#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\">The Mohawk Warrior Society: A Handbook on Sovereignty and Survival<\/a>, directed the feature-length documentary film Spaces of Exception.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial; font-size: large;\">The filmmakers said, &#8220;Profiling the American Indian reservation alongside the Palestinian refugee camp, Spaces of Exception was filmed from 2014 to 2017 in Arizona, New Mexico, New York, and South Dakota as well as Lebanon and the West Bank.
