This is the last supper of the artificial entity of Canada.\u00a0 Thank you for being with us and for<\/span> showing<\/span> your support.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

We are here for a very important and, sadly, tragic announcement which it is our duty to share with you.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite what McGill has been stating publicly since the beginning of this investigation in a denialist attempt to hide <\/span>their <\/span>history of criminal experiments<\/span> and abuse<\/span> against our people, we have been informed that undeniable evidence of human remains has now been discovered.<\/span> In fact, McGill and the SQI have commissioned this report themselves, so they should be the ones sharing these tragic findings with the public. They said they were committed to transparency, but they are not.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In one area near the Allan Memorial Institute of McGill University, where the infamous medical experiments <\/span>known as MK-Ultra <\/span>took place,<\/span> investigations using<\/span> three separate remote-sensing technologies <\/span>have finally been completed. <\/span>We have received a report<\/span> combining these results<\/span> that states<\/span> that<\/span>, quote, \u201c<\/span>The combination of three separate lines of evidence supports the presence of human remains<\/span>\u201d <\/span>near <\/span>the Allan Memorial Institute.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

These three <\/span>technologies included<\/span> Ground Penetrating Radar, three <\/span>teams of <\/span>Historic Human Remains Detection Dogs, and<\/span>, most recently,<\/span> the<\/span> use<\/span> of the <\/span>S4<\/span> Subterra Grey Probe<\/span> —<\/span> which <\/span>was designed <\/span>specifically to <\/span>detect human burials<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The results of a<\/span>ll three of those techniques <\/span>support <\/span>the presence of human remains on the site that survivors and <\/span>community members like <\/span>us have been trying to protect for four years.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

McGill says that absence of evidence is evidence of absence. What we say<\/span> —<\/span> and what the experts say<\/span> —<\/span> is that the presence of evidence is evidence of presence. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Apart from<\/span> this zone, several other zones of <\/span>concern <\/span>have been identified on the site, including <\/span>other<\/span> targets<\/span> where dogs alerted<\/span> and <\/span>worrisome results from <\/span>ground penetrating radar<\/span> reports<\/span>, which <\/span>all <\/span>warrant further investigation.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This morning, we sent an official letter to assistant chief coroner G\u00e9hane Kamel notifying her office of these tragic findings and requesting their intervention to protect and <\/span>properly <\/span>investigate <\/span>the death of the person, or their remains, in this <\/span>unmarked burial<\/span> that was detected on the site of the Allan Memorial Institute.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

We reached out to the coroner, first, because <\/span>the law requires<\/span> people<\/span> to inform the coroner of the presence of human remains<\/span>, quote,<\/span> \u201c<\/span>where it appears that the death has <\/span>occurred as a result of negligence or in obscure or violent circumstances<\/span>\u201d. Second, we chose to contact <\/span>coroner <\/span>G\u00e9hane Kamel specifically because of her work investigating the role of systemic racism in the death of Joyce Echaquan<\/span>, <\/span>an <\/span>Atikamekw woman,<\/span> at the Joliette hospital. We feel that in this <\/span>important work <\/span>coroner Kamel <\/span>demonstrated <\/span>a strong sensitivity and respect for Indigenous <\/span>concerns <\/span>and traditional protocols. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

We think that this represents an unprecedented opportunity to find new and innovative pathways <\/span>toward <\/span>reconciliation <\/span>through <\/span>a joint investigation including both the coroner\u2019s office and Mohawk experts. We thus asked the coroner to work with Indigenous experts, a Mohawk medical pathologist<\/span> and<\/span> a Mohawk archaeologist<\/span>,<\/span> alongside <\/span>cultural monitors, to ensure a credible, <\/span>transparent <\/span>and impartial investigation<\/span> — one<\/span> that can help our community find the truth about what happened<\/span> to us<\/span> at the <\/span>Royal Victoria <\/span>and <\/span>at <\/span>McGill.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The reason why it is so urgent<\/span> right now<\/span> to protect and investigate this area is because McGill and the SQI [Quebec Department of Infrastructures] have already announced their intention to excavate the zone the same way they did where the dogs<\/span> first<\/span> identified the scent of human remains<\/span>, back<\/span> in June 2023 in front of the Hersey Pavilion.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You can see what<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s happening in front of that building<\/span> right<\/span> now<\/span>:<\/span> A <\/span>massive<\/span> construction project is<\/span> going on full blown<\/span> for McGill\u2019s New Vic Project<\/span>, using $650 million dollars of Quebec taxpayers\u2019 money<\/span> to privatize land that <\/span>they promised would<\/span> serve for health care in perpetuity. Historic Human Remains Detection Dogs <\/span>identified<\/span> the scent of human remains in that area in 2023, and disturbing discoveries were made when<\/span> they started<\/span> digging there. <\/span>Two <\/span>fragments of <\/span>a pair of<\/span> children\u2019s shoes from the beginning of the 20<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> century. A layer that had a horrible smell <\/span>like something <\/span>decomposing. And many bones. But instead of listening to the recommendations of the archaeologists we had jointly <\/span>approved<\/span>, McGill and the SQI decided to fire them when they started asking for forensic precaution <\/span>to preserve<\/span> that evidence. Instead of sifting the soil immediately<\/span> like they were supposed to<\/span> as explicitly indicated in the legally binding settlement agreement<\/span>, McGill and SQI let the piles of soil rot under the sun and the rain for three months, before putting the soil in trucks to move it <\/span>out of the way of their <\/span>development project. <\/span>They <\/span>ended up sifting the piles with a huge mechanical machine used <\/span>for mining<\/span>, and which is never used in archaeology. <\/span>Then they told us<\/span> the hundreds of bone fragments<\/span> they<\/span> found there were too small to identify<\/span>.<\/span> How<\/span> is<\/span> that for a university teaching archeology<\/span> and supposed to value science<\/span>?<\/span> Despite <\/span>their promises to do it,<\/span> those bones<\/span> were never tested in a lab. The <\/span>case <\/span>was closed. Our cultural monitors and archaeologists on the site, and many other experts we consulted, were adamant that the mistreatment of the evidence and the use of that big machine destroyed the very fragile bones in the soil.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Desecration of human remains is a crime. And it\u2019s still a crime if its an Indigenous <\/span>person<\/span>, by the way<\/span>. We reported McGill and the SQI\u2019s mistreatment to the Superior Court and we <\/span>won <\/span>that <\/span>case. The Judge saw that they distorted the words of our agreement to fire the experts <\/span>that <\/span>we agreed <\/span>up<\/span>on. He ordered them to listen to <\/span>the experts\u2019 <\/span>recommendations. But they appealed the decision<\/span>,<\/span> and it was overturned for <\/span>procedural <\/span>reasons that had nothing to do with what<\/span> actually<\/span> happened<\/span>. The colonial court system is not our system. Our system seeks to <\/span>right any<\/span> wrongs and to <\/span>understand one another<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Because the colonial legal system is incapable of protecting our rights, despite all the talk about reconciliation and the United Nations Declaration<\/span>,<\/span> we have no choice but to take the matter into our own hands, and to request the coroner to use her powers and expertise<\/span>, and<\/span> to work with our communit<\/span>ies<\/span> to implement a thorough, respectful and <\/span>honest <\/span>investigation. Our lost children <\/span>and loved ones <\/span>can\u2019t wait <\/span>any<\/span> longer. They ask us to find them. Because we can\u2019t afford to lose them again <\/span>the way we did on the New Vic site<\/span>, we will be <\/span>keeping constant vigil and<\/span> monitoring the site to make sure it is not destroyed until the <\/span>area is <\/span>secure<\/span>d<\/span> for <\/span>a proper <\/span>investigation. We also invite the public to report <\/span>any <\/span>suspicious activity to us. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
