MNN. MAR. 15, 2013.  SPLITTING
Mohawk Warrior and Champion of the People Dies – March 13, 2013. A great loss to the people, to the nation, to the resistance, anti-imperialist  movement right across Great Turtle Island.

JOHN HILLOn March 13th, Dacajeweiah, Splitting-the-Sky, 61, left us forever when he passed away in his home in Adams Lake, British Columbia. Dac’s colonial name was John Boncore Hill, from Six Nations. “From Attica to Gustafsen Lake,” and thereafter, he was a warrior, a comrade, a brother, a father, a grandfather, a friend.

We deeply mourn his loss.

The family will release a biographical statement and details of memorial arrangements in due course. With deepest love to his wife, She-Keeps-the-Door, and children. We stand with Dac’s many many co-fighters and friends. He loved the People. The AIM song is dedicated to the continuance of the resistance after a warrior has fallen A.I.M. song

  1. A loss of any outspoken anti-imperialist activist and voice of the people is a great loss to the world. My deepest condolences. May he RIP.

  2. He was one of the most influential people in my life next to my Mother and Father. I met him twenty-two years ago in New York City. I had the privilege of working along side Dacajeweiah and his brother Good Leaf to organize a demonstration outside the UN in 1992. He was magic…to say the least. Our friendship re-connected here in BC. Dac his wife Sandra and children were a part mine and my son’s life these last 16 years. My heart is heavy and I am deeply saddened to loose such a special, spectacular person. There is no other like him. He was my friend/brother and defender of the people ALL people….Rest my brother I will miss you always. Until we meet again.

    With Love and Respect

Canada Palestine Association is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Mohawk warrior and indigenous activist Splitting the Sky (John Boncore). The Palestinian people are indebted to Splitting the Sky for his enduring resistance and uncompromising anti-colonial positions, as well as his long time support of the Palestinian struggle. He was an early member of the American Indian Movement and also attempted a citizen’s arrest of U.S. President George W. Bush in 2009 in Calgary for war crimes and crimes against humanity .
We were honored to have him deliver a solidarity message on the occasion of the Int’l Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians in 2003 in Vancouver, an event that also featured the parents of Rachel Corrie.
Our condolences to his family, friends and nation; rest assured his legacy will carry on!

    In Solidarity

  6. I am deeply saddened by the loss of fellow activist, both as a person and a fighter for all peoples and all our relations. His work on indigenous sovereignty, prison justice, and justice for all peoples and animals was outstanding. His fighting and loving spirit and great sense of humour will be what I remember of this great warrior and human being. With deepest condolences to Splitting the Sky’s family, friends, and other freedom fighters. Rest in peace my brother, you will be remembered and your efforts have inspired many to take up the fight. 9. I just read about our dear brother, friend and comrade; I’m at a computer in the library and I’m close to tears. So sad to hear he has left us, but he will be missed and remembered as a great fighter for justice for his people and all oppressed people. I will forever cherish the many fond memories I have, remembering him giving great speeches at the annual African Liberation Day events in Washington, DC during the 1990s.

May the Ancestors receive him warmly . . . .

  10. what a kind human being who stood up for what is right and truth. another kindness leaving this earth. but our loss, Ishra’s gain and he is happy now but he had to get over his shock.
