THREE FEATHERS

MNN. Aug. 28, 2013. In the spring of 2005 the women of Akwesasne asked the men to fill council positions in the Turtle, Wolf and Bear clans. Bear and Wolf Clans each selected three men and the Turtle Clan selected one. During the next few years, they worked on establishing various businesses to help the people.

In July 2011 to September 2012 the Three Feathers casino in Akwesasne was operated by the Longhouse people.

Rorakwis of Wolf Clan.

Rorahkwiserake of Wolf Clan.

At 5.00 a.m. on December 18, 2012 Three Feathers was raided by US federal marshals, border patrol agents and Mohawk tribal police. Rorahkwiserake of the Wolf Clan was arrested at the business site on a US warrant using NYS Inc. gambling laws that are invalid in Akwesasne. Three men were named in indictments. Kahnieretiio of the Bear Clan was placed under house arrest and could not leave Akwesasne. Tony Laughing was also placed under house arrest with an ankle bracelet. Bail [ransom] of $50,000 was set for Rorahkwiserake of the Wolf Clan who remains in a Plattsburgh NY prison. leg bracelet

On December 28 2012 the Six Nations Rotiskenrakehte/Men received the issue. Six Nations Counsel of Chiefs, Tekarihoken Royaner, offered his clan family support. Kanenhariyo, on formal loan from the Turtle Clan, became temporary Ayonwes [War Chief].

The Two Row Wampum agreement gave Europeans limited rights to live on our land. They are bound to return any of our people who may be in violation to be judged by our people. We must also return their prisoners to them. [Two Row Wampum, Great Law of Peace and Great Peace of Montreal 1701.] Ignorance of the law is  no excuse.

The Mohawk/Kanionkehaka are the northern “Keepers of the Eastern Door” of the Iroquois Confederacy. We are the enforcers of the Great Peace and protect our people, territory and waterways. The charges by the foreign corporations of the United States, New York State, US federal marshals, border patrols and Mohawk tribal police against our people are illegal. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Inc. is a foreign entity. The Kaianerekowa/Great Law of Peace is the only law of Onowaregeh. We never forfeited jurisdiction over ourselves, our land and resources to foreign entities incorporated under the Admiralty law of the seas. We have a rightful duty to resist.

These principles are affirmed in the US Constitution, British North America Act; the international Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide, United Nations Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and other international legal instruments that the US and Canada have signed.

General Assembly Resolution 1541 [XV] requires the informed consent of the people before they are included in another state; the international Court of Justice affirmed this in the Western Sahara case; and the Indigenous people never consented to be part of the US and Canada.

All individual or foreign entities wishing to discuss issues with us must go through proper protocol, which is the US President and Queen Elizabeth, who represents the occupiers.

This illegal interference in Indigenous trade and commerce will end. The Mohawks will resist illegality and affirm our inherent rights.akwe casino

WARRIOR COHORTS

mnnlogo

MNN. AUG. 15, 2013. The MacDonald-Laurier think tank has published a report on “Canada and the First Nations, Cooperation or Conflict”. The board consists of CEOs of energy corporations and other rulers. Discussed at length is how to start an Indigenous uprising in order to execute the Warriors! This report is their “Mein Kampf” for the total physical and mental extermination of Indigenous people.

McDonald-Laurier troops marching into Roseau River: "Where is that Terrance Nelson?"

MacDonald-Laurier think tank troops marching into Roseau River: “Where is that Terrance Nelson?”

Indigenous men they call “Warrior Cohorts” are feared because of the colonial demonization program. Starvation and genocide failed. Our population increased by 45% between 1996 and 2006. By 2017, 42% of Indigenous People will be under 30 years of age. Canada exists on illegal extraction of our resources and selling/transporting them to far-off markets. Limited security forces makes Canada vulnerable. The anxiety is that “Indigenous can chose the challenges!” because resources and transportation lines are on Indigenous territories that were never surrendered. A conflict needs to be instigated to bring in military forces to protect corporate interests! Legitimate dialogue is to be avoided.

The main resources are coal, grain, potash, nickel and lumber. Disruption could cause empty-handed producers, idle ships, closed mills, laid off workers and foreign customers looking elsewhere.

Their strategies are based on a deep misunderstanding of the Mohawk Oka Crisis 1990 and Six Nations/Caledonia 2005 resistance. A unified Indigenous people is dreaded. They rely on the advice of their corporate band council and national Injuns, whose job is to distract, pacify, keep us ignorant and maintain 3rd world living conditions.

The natural people are called “insurgents”. We live everywhere. Main concerns are rail, road, air, water, hydro electric lines, pipelines, poles, bridges, refineries, power plants, oil, ocean platforms, tunnels, airports, waterways, communication and control systems. Disruption would affect businesses, governments, resource and economic functions. Main border crossings under constant surveillance are Windsor, Niagara Falls, Sarnia, Lacolle, Emerson Manitoba and Pacific Highway.

The main transport hub is Winnipeg Manitoba. An 85,000 “Warrior Cadre” could easily overwhelm 52 small RCMP detachments. One disruption could lead to resistance in other places. Their figures are extremely low!

The main strategies are to avoid respect for Indigenous sovereignty; criminalize the young “Warrior Cohorts” or “child soldiers” they call “young thugs”, who are all “violence prone”. Build more jails. Find the charismatic leader who will appear, unify and lead us! Heh! Heh! Heh!

Rez cars are all we have!

Rez cars are all we have!

“Indians have no weapons”. Those elders, women and children sitting on tracks have to be subdued! Confrontations could be old cars burning on and warping railroads” [which all belong to us as everything was built with our funds!]

Immigrants selling off our possessions is over! Can the rightful Indigenous challenge to the corporations be overcome? Disarm the Warrior Cohort [who have no weapons]. Threaten us to give up our claims to inherent sovereignty. Deathly force, if necessary, for short-term protests. Long term response is being developed.

“Indigenous can use scarce resources efficiently and attract international attention”. Infrastructure on our land is a powerful tool of influence.  Indigenous are about stopping the destruction of our Mother Earth versus “The government will prevail”. We’d like an accounting of the Corporation of Canada’s spending of our ever-growing $365 trillion Indian Trust Fund which comes from the illegal sale of our resources. Canada cannot claim sovereignty when no documents exist that show we surrendered anything to anyone.

All aboard!

All aboard!

The Kaianerekowa/Great Law of Peace prevents us from failure.

Johnny Cash knows such Nazi MacDonald-Laurier gangsters are going to jail in the Fatherland: “I know I had it comin’,
I know I can’t be free…”Folsom Prison Blues

STRAIGHT UP

MNN. JULY 29, 2013. What would you do if an old man sent pictures of his erect penis to your adolescent daughter, along with suggestive sexual invitations to have sex? It’s like suggesting a father rape his daughter. Former Congressman, Anthony Weiner, a wealthy politician running for mayor of New York City is setting this example. Former NYS Governor Eliot Spitzer, another old man, was caught soliciting a 22-year old. He resigned and became a media star. Both committed crimes against women. images-2

The rulers are dismantling US and Canada legally, socially, politically, commercially and ethically. Canada is being handed over to the US empire. Prime Minister Harper is taking apart everything so international bankers can access the resources.

Inbred royalty is being displayed up front, the Royal Air Force and Queenie is pictured everywhere. Charles and Camilla may be installed as king and queen of Canada. The working class continues to serve as the resource extractors.

Anthony Weiner is a litmus test of a dying empire, of parasites that steal everything and produce nothing, of openly scamming everyone, and of a decaying rotting society. Thousands of years of ethics, decent norms and intelligence is being trampled upon. Sexual voyeurism attacks women and children first, followed by the massacre of humanity.

Both Spitzer and Weiner’s wives stood by their man. They forgave their husbands because they don’t care about other people. Vanity, status and being a mayor’s or CEO’s wife is more important. They are part of the problem and just as guilty. Guilt and corruption start internally. The collaborators are shielded. Society without morals becomes uncaring about politics. Weiner tells us, “I can be as decadent as I want”.

The rulers have promoted the penis and pornography to represent power, war and status. This decadent strata of society must be removed from the human race or we will all go down. This should be the last exploiting class to rule.

In the old way, men pursued the perpetrator, snapped him up, tied him to a tree and castrated him. The women whip him with a red willow in front of the people.  Everybody has a choice. Our communities have the responsibility to take care of our women and children. The masses rely on their police, politicians and congressmen, many of whom are committing indecencies. If people don’t confront Weiner, they agree with it.

Old red willow whipping for child sexual abuse!

Give me the old red willow whipping for sexual abuse and destroying social morality, please!

Weiner, Spitzer, former President Bill Clinton and others helped open the door to the slime ball society. These sickly role models are promoted. Now other sickos can approach and attack young girls who refuse their advances. Our girls and boys must resist even if their parents are too busy in a system that makes these young girls vulnerable. A sting operation is going on in 74 US cities for child prostitution.

As Frank Zappa sang about government designed control; I am the tool of the Government/And industry too/For I am destined to rule And regulate you.” “I’m the Slime”.

ANTIS & WARRIORS

mnnlogo

MNN. July 1, 2013. Twenty-three years ago Akwesasne was mired in controversy supposedly over gambling. The two sides were dubbed the “Antis” and the “Warriors”. The antis would invite the press in and stage shootings. They falsely claimed gangs of marauding youths with semi-automatics were roaming the streets. The Warriors pledged they would never fight against our own people.HORNUNG AKWE

The real issue continues to be sovereignty and jurisdiction. New York State and the FBI have no authority to come into Mohawk sovereign territory.

The condoled Confederacy chiefs feared the Men who maintained the Great Law. They began a false campaign that Warriors no longer existed in Haudenosaunee society. Conflicts were ignited in our communities.

NY State Governor Mario Cuomo had a weekly radio show on current events. One night he spoke about the issues at Akwesasne. Two calls came in. One during the show and another afterward. A man wanted Cuomo to send in the National Guards against the Warriors. The caller asked, “What is it going to take for you to send in the National Guards?”

akwe casinoCuomo replied, “Dead bodies”. Within hours two men were killed, Harold J.R. Edwards and Matthew Pike, both shot in the back. The caller accused a well-known individual and the Warriors of the murders. The Governor knew that the accused was far away from Akwesasne at the time, that the caller was lying.

The Warrior Society asked NY State Police to enter Akwesasne to investigate the two killings. They did not come in.

A well-known native reporter was arrested and jailed based on eye-witness testimony. The witness was visited by unnamed persons. He recanted his statements. The charges were stayed. There was not enough evidence.

friendly fireToday no proper investigation has been done. No one has explained the strange timing of the killings. Was this a product of organized crime? If so, who were the organizers? So far the Grand Council of Onondaga has never cleared this up, which is a violation of the Great Law.  As Gene Pitney sang about gunslingers: “Everyone heard two shots ring out, a shot made Liberty fall/
The man who shot Liberty Valance, he shot Liberty Valance/He was the bravest of them all.” The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

MNN: SWARMING

mnnlogo1
SWARMING

MNN. Feb. 17, 2013. When the European military came to Great Turtle Island, they met Indigenous warriors who did not meet them head on. They attacked and disappeared into the woods. Our men used swarming to attack and defeat the much larger and better armed British and French formations. Behind our fighting groups we had a democratic organization. There were natural loyalties among us that glued us together. It was defensive. The colonists ended up having to deal with us as equals.

Indigenous invented guerilla warfare.

Indigenous guerilla warfare.

Idle No More utilizes this strategy. Hierarchical governments cannot deal with this. They will break down. Soon Canada has to deal with the Indigenous people’s natural government formations.

Hierarchy is becoming powerless. The internet is changing the way people get information and communicate. It empowers smaller units. From the large to the few, to the small and the many! It is breaking the spell of corporate hegemony and capitalism over society.

Hierarchy works at controlling people. The Idle No More movement shows there is no way to control grassroots Indigenous people. Power is being devolved into small units, which are interconnected. Global conflicts are being reshaped. The existing order will be overturned because the power is in the people.

Swarmers know hierarchical power is artificial and against the natural way. Hierarchies need a target. There is none. One minute they are there and then they just disappear. Hitting back at nothing is not winning. We the people have power and are using it. We can be visible or invisible. Internet spreads information more effectively than mass media. New thoughts are being spread to the public independent of mass media, which has lost its brainwashing power. We can listen to anyone we chose. Swarmers can be unorganized or well organized. They are everywhere.

Ineffective cop cluster.

Ancient war games.

To combat swarming, like the “Idle No More” sudden formations in shopping malls and elsewhere, the US military is developing “BattleSwarm”. The military is broken down into small units. Pods operate in clusters. It won’t work because they are not based on natural affiliations.

Thinking for ourselves is a human survival spirit. Swarming reflects the human instinct to make connections. It demonstrates the social will in each of us to think and act for ourselves and to help our people. We work together, use our minds to help and defend ourselves from abusers. There is no mastermind. It strikes from all directions and then withdraws. The interconnection is on a subconscious level. They move from place to place, do something and disappear into the night. It is as though one mind is in control.

Corporate Canada has seen that their band and tribal council apparatus is totally ineffective in controlling us. We urge the councils, don’t coddle up to the powers that are out to kill us. Don’t stand in front of the enemy and ask for anything. We warn you, don’t put on the fascist uniforms and help the colonizers eliminate our people to save yourselves. Just get into their boat and be on your way.

One People. One Fire.

One People. One Fire.

MNN: WAR IS A RACKET

mnnlogo1WAR IS A RACKET!

MNN.  Jan. 28, 2013.  The cabal is meeting today in Ottawa.  It is between the cooperative Corporate Indians and the economic royalists. Chief Crazy Horse said this just before he was assassinated: “How many times must the white man break his word? How short are your memories that you can again accept their promises? Why is today’s promises any different from those of yesterday?”

One of our great Warriors.

One of our great Warriors.

Pressure is on to steal our resources needed for war. The bankers are directing their CEO of the Corporation of Canada, Stephen Harper, to ramp up the extraction of war materials that the Indigenous people are living on. We never gave up any of it. The economic royalists are planning to split the blood money.  The sub-corporations of Canada, known as band and tribal councils, are there to give the illusion of legality and to get a few crumbs for doing it.

Mark “Carnage” Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada, is heading to England with our $3 trillion Indian Trust Fund in tow to give to the economic royalists [bankers].

One of many whistle blowers.

One of many whistle blowers

Nothing is new under the sun. US Major General Smedley Butler, in his famous 1933 speech, clearly laid out that “War Is a Racket”.

Major Butler, one of the most decorated generals of World War I, outlined how WW11 was planned. One year later, Butler gave secret testimony to the McCormack-Dickstin Committee [later the House Committee on Un-American Activities]. He told of a plot headed by a group of wealthy American businessmen [American Liberty League] to set up a fascist dictatorship in the US, complete with concentration camps for Jews and other undesirables.[ Full article:  War is a Racket: Smedley Butler

Butler was approached by Gerald T. MacGuire of Wall Street’s Grayson M-P, Murphy and Co.  An army of 500,000 would be assembled of unemployed WW1 veterans to march on Washington DC to bring down the government. The plutocrats wanted Butler to lead the coup, promising $3 million to start and $300 million later. Butler went along with the plot to learn their identities.  None was ever called to testify or charged with treason.  Almost all were founding members of the Council on Foreign Relations CFR.  The League was headed up by DuPont and J.P. Morgan cartels.  Supporters were Andrew Mellon, Sun Oil, Rockefeller, E.F Hutton, US Steel, General Motors, Chase, Standard Oil and Goodyear Tires. Money was funneled through Senator Prescott Bush through his Union Banking Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman.  To the plotters bragged about Bush’s connections with Hitler.  Germany had promised Bush they would provide weapons for the coup.

Butler concluded war is the oldest, most profitable, most vicious racket.  It is international in scope.  Profits are reckoned in dollars and losses in lives. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the very many. In WWI a handful garnered all the profits.  At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the US. They admitted their blood games in their income taxes. Others falsified their tax returns. None shouldered a rifle, dug a trench, went hungry in a rat infested dugout, suffered sleepless, frightened nights, ducked shells, shrapnel, and machine gun bullets.  None parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy or were wounded or killed in battle.

The public paid for grave stones, mangled bodies, shattered minds, broken hearts and homes, economic instability, depression and all its attendant miseries, and back breaking taxation for generations.

Now I see international war clouds gathering. Sides are being chosen. France and Russia are standing together. Italy and Austria are side by side. Poland and Germany are working together, forgetting their dispute over the Polish corridor. The assassination of King Alexander of Yugoslavia complicated matters. Italy was ready to jump in. France and Czechoslavakia waited. They all looked forward to war. Not the people, who fight, pay and die. Those who foment wars stay home to profit.  40 million men are armed. Statesmen and diplomats lie that war is not in the making.  Hells, bells!  These men are not being trained to be dancers!

In italy, Premier Benito Mousselini said in “international Conciliation”, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace publication:  “And above all, Fascism, the more it considers and observes the future and development of humanity, … believed neither in the possibility, nor the utility of perpetual peace… war alone brings up to its highest tension all human energy and puts the stamp of nobility upon the people who have the courage to meet it.”

His well-trained army, fleet of planes and navy are ready for war. His stand at Hungary’s in its dispute with Yugoslavia showed that. Also troops were quickly mobilized on the Austrian border after the assassination of Dollfuss. Other Europeans rattled their sabers for war.

Herr Hitler rearmed Germany and constantly demanded more arms. France recently increased military service from a year to 18 months. Nations are camping in their arms. The mad dogs of Europe are on the loose.

In the Orient, in 1904 when Russia and Japan fought, we kicked out our old friends, the Russians, and backed Japan. Our generous international bankers were financing Japan.  Now we are being poisoned against Japan!

What does the “open door” policy to China mean to us? Our trade with China is about $90 million a year. We have spent $600 million in the Philippines in 35 years. “Our bankers, industrialists and speculators” have private investments there of less than $200 million. To save the China trade and protect these private investments, we are being stirred up to hate Japan and go to war – a war that might well cost us tens of billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives of Americans and many more hundreds of thousands of physically maimed and mentally unbalanced men. Millions and billions of dollars would be piled up by a few munitions makers, bankers, ship builders, manufacturers, meat packers, speculators.

Yes, war pays high dividends.  But what does it profit the men who are killed, their mothers and sisters, their wives and sweethearts, their children? Except for the very few to whom war means huge profits.

Until 1898 we didn’t own a bit of territory outside the mainland of North America. Our national debt was a little more than $1 million.  Then we became “internationally minded”.  We forgot George Washington’s warning about “entangling alliances”.  We went to war. We acquired outside territory. Our national debt jumped to over $25 million. We ran a little behind year after year. It would have been cheaper to stay out of foreign entanglements.

The lesson is don’t forget the failed 1934 coup attempt by the economic royalists on Wall Street, owned and run from the City of London. None were jailed. They have the same agenda today. We Indigenous can stop war by occupying the means of production to deny them the goods they need.

Kay Kyser sang in her song, “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition”:  “Yes, the sky pilot said it, you gotta give him credit.  For a son-of-a-gun of a gunner was he, shoutin’ praise the Lord, we’re on a mighty mission. All aboard, we ain’t a goin’ fishin’.  Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, and we’ll all stay free”.  Kay Kyser: Praise the lord and pass the ammunition  praise the lord

UNCLE SAM WANTS YOU!

WARNING TO THE INDIGENOUS YOUTH FROM A CONCERNED ELDER.MNN. June 27, 2008. Dear Native Youth. Take some time to read a few timely words from an elder, who has your well-being in mind.

Do not join the Canadian or U.S. military. They are violating the Two Row Wampum Agreement. Everywhere the Europeans went they put Indigenous people in the galleys of their ships. A few would be promised some benefit if they carried out some hideous deed against their people. Some were even freed. But they were never free. They helped their masters make holes in the hulls of our ancestral canoes to try to get control over the whole river of life.

They think this is a tried and true method. First corporations and governments create conditions of poverty and economic desperation. They give the youth the feeling that they have absolutely no options except to blow their brains out with drugs or alcohol. Then they stride in with banners claiming to be saviors, and that they know of an “honorable” way out. You belong! We want you! Be a man! Get a free education! Get paid! Defend your country! Be a hero!

They are recruiting you to be their galley slaves for their fortunes and fascist agenda. The colonists are trying to remodel our canoe. They’ve got seats for us, as galley slaves. To qualify we have to stop using our minds and agree to follow their orders.

The colonial states need cannon fodder for their illegal wars. You are the target, Indigenous youth of Onowaregeh, Turtle Island. If you join, you will end up disillusioned or in a body bag or seen as treasonous by our people.

Don’t be fooled. A seat as a galley slave is not the same as a seat at the negotiating table. Since the invasion of Turtle Island, colonial governments have not respected or upheld our rights to our land, resources, self-determination, freedom and human equality. The blinded visions of the politicians and military are not bringing a better life of freedom and democracy to us, to the countries they invade or to their own youth who are so cruelly sacrificed to paranoiac delusions of grandeur. Once you slap on that uniform you belong to them.

Did we ever have freedom and democracy? You bet we did. The U.S. Senate even recognized the Kaianereh’ko:wa [Great Law of Peace] as the basis of the U.S. Constitution. Today, the U.S. and Canada are taking away freedom and democracy from us and the people they invade. Don’t be fooled by Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent apology over the church and state’s orchestrated residential school genocide. Did you notice any changes in the Indian act to abolish the usurpation of supervisory authority that caused all of our problems? They’re not the boss of us. They never have been. But they still dream they are.

They want us to be their patsies. They are trying to recruit us to commit the same crimes they committed against us. Don’t do to others what was done to us. Middle Eastern people are not our enemies. We know your situation is not easy. We know you are intelligent, strong, can think for yourself and find a better way.

You will be made to kill dark skinned people for their land and resources. Should you return home from warfare your body may be filled with depleted uranium. These weapons are designed to kill the “victims” and to contaminate you for an early death to cut down on medical bills. “Depleted uranium” used to make “dirty bombs” destroys the soil and the poor people in these Middle Eastern nations.

You will be fighting for greedy capitalists you don’t even know, who come from “Bay Street” and “Wall Street”. [London and the Vatican]. You are not even from “ Main Street ”.

Indigenous youth, your time is needed at home to help take care of your loved ones? A wife and children are helpless without their protector?

Military funerals are displays to reinforce nationalism. Our nationalism is to care for our families and lands.

After trying for centuries to kill us off, they are coming after you, our children, to fill up their armies to die in their stinking wars?

Indigenous youth, you could be ordered to kill your own people. There is no glory or ‘neat’ adventurism in slaughtering men, women and babies.

We Indigenous have no beef against the Islamic world. They have no beef against us. We do not covet their land, resources and treasures [oil]. Turtle Island is ours. We don’t have to carry out mass murder against others to steal from them. Our mind, body and energy are tied to our land. We belong here. These European invaders are complete strangers here who are able to destroy and disrespect our land, turning it into a toxic waste dump almost unfit for us to live on.

Indigenous youth, you are going to be told lies meant to make you hate the people you are going to be ordered to slaughter. Many of you will die.

On the internet are many stories about a coming financial collapse or worldwide famine. There is no need for any of this. The people of the world can work together to make sure that everyone is decently provided for. The cartels have decided that certain of us are meant to starve to death. Your family will need you during the hard times that may be coming.

Parents, our youth are too precious. We should not sacrifice them. We must cherish and protect them. We don’t want to cry later.

Karakwine jasimon@sympatico.ca

Fighting this border issue will cost money. MNN has none. Canada can dip into the pockets of 30 million people and all indigenous resources. We need counsel that will not be intimidated by this display of power. The establishment is apparently hiring top law firms to fight the Mohawks. Your financial help is needed. If you could send donations to the MNN legal defense fund, it would be greatly appreciated: MNN Mohawk Nation News, Box 991, Kahnawake [Quebec, Canada] J0L 1B0.

Part 2. THE PATH HOME: “Warriors – Why we stand up”:

Part 2. THE PATH HOME: “Warriors – Why we stand up”:MNN. Nov. 5, 2006. Introduction: Sa-o-ie-ra; warriors in other Indigenous nations; why we went off the path; our effect on non-indigenous society; criticisms; who was Karonhiaktajeh; history of the warriors; the goal of peace; ganistensera; role of clans and women relatives.

Tekarontakeh, an elder Renskarakete, outlined some of the historical background on how the “Warrior Society” was re-established. He said, “It was always here because the people were always here. For a time it just wasn’t visible”.

Sa-o-ie-ra

“Sa-o-ie-ra” means it’s a natural instinct instilled in us by creation. Every creature on earth has this natural instinct to protect itself, its species, its territories and everything that sustains its life. We do what we must do to survive. A warrior doesn’t have to ponder whether he should protect himself, his people, his clan, his land, water and everything that helps to sustain his people. These are our sources of life. Our full understanding of the natural world is how we will survive. When we are attacked, our instincts tell us that we have to defend ourselves as fully and completely as possible. That’s how Creation made us.

All Indigenous nations have warriors.

The colonists are alarmed that our People are picking up this warrior image no matter what Indigenous nation we come from. Why? They thought they had destroyed us through colonization, genocide, fear and all the strategies that have been applied elsewhere in the world. Our will comes from nature. Even the non-natives depend on that too. To destroy us they destroy themselves.

A lot of time and effort is spent trying to dissolve this positive image of the warrior. At Six Nations at the beginning of the reclamation of “Kanenhstaton”, in the confusion of people rising up to defend the land, efforts were made by a few to not fly the “warrior flag”. We argued that it signified that we want to fight for our survival as a people and to carry out our instructions. In the end, not only did one or two flags come out, but the whole community put the flag in front of their homes and on their cars. The colonists are trying to discourage our people from identifying with us. More and more are coming to understand our position. We have no choice but to live according to the men’s duties as outlined in our constitution, the Kaiannereh’ko:wa/Great Law of Peace.

What took us off the path? It was the genocide we went through.

The colonists came here to conquer. They brought their strange religions and hierarchical institutions. These were contrary to how we see life. We saw these as “man-made beliefs”. Rather than relying on ourselves, they wanted to pacify us. They wanted our decisions to be made by someone somewhere up on the hierarchical ladder. They attacked our spirit in many ways so we lost confidence and could no longer defend ourselves or what was ours. They did not want us to defend our lives that creation had prescribed for us. Our knowledge is based on our observation of natural ways. This confusion destroyed many of us.

These invaders immediately tried to take over Turtle Island. One of the first strategies was to use us for commerce and military allies. In the meantime they worked to kill us off. After a while they successfully killed off 99% of us throughout the Western Hemisphere. 115 million of our people died off. We are the descendants of those few whose ancestors survived the biggest holocaust in all mankind. They had to make some crucial decisions for us to be here today.

Non-Indigenous society must learn too.

What brought us back? It was the minds of our ancestors who thought about how we were to survive in this news state of affairs. Our ancestors willed themselves so that we would be here today. We have to educate ourselves about this past history and how we got through it. It was the Kaianereh’ko:wa – which is modeled on the ways of the natural world. We just have to look at what it does, think about and discuss it. Then we will find our answers.

The time has come for the non-Indigenous people to learn why we are standing up as we do. We can’t educate only ourselves. We must educate the settlers too. Many non-native people are interested in who are the real Onkwehonwe? It means “the real people forever” because nature is here forever. At one time these non-natives had ancestors who were indigenous somewhere else once too. They need to understand the world view we are coming from. Maybe they have an instinctual desire to find a home. Many of them are sensitive enough to understand that when you are in someone else’s land, you have to tread carefully. What happened to us is the guests came
here and tried to kill of their hosts. This is bad manners and a violation of nature. A parasite will die if it kills what it is living off of. You could disrupt something and not even know you’re doing it.

Criticisms of the Warriors

We hear a lot of provocative statements about the warriors by those who don’t know very much about “Rotiskenrakete”, the carriers of the soil of Turtle Island. Colonial society translates this to mean “warrior”. They are not a legend. Warriors are real. Warriors are part of the Kaianereh’ko:wa/Great Law of Peace.

There is not only a lack of understanding but a deliberate misrepresentation of the warriors. White society is designed to control its people. To do this they have to instill fear in everybody. The “warriors” have been stereotyped to evoke fear in the non-native people.

Because of this lack of understanding, at the Six Nations reclamation of our land and other sites of resistance, our men have had to cover their faces. The warriors of old did not have to deal with media manipulations, high tech police surveillance techniques, files, wanted posters over police wires, or phony charges to criminalize them into submission to the colonial system. This is the price we have to pay for carrying out our duties to our people.

The Rotisken’ra:kete did not fail in their duties. As a matter of fact, they have been phenomenally successful. Had they failed, we would not be here today. Currently the colonists are spending millions of dollars to discredit our Rotiskenrakete. But we are still here and our flag is still flying. If the Ongwehonwe are finally destroyed that is when the Rotisken’ra:kete are destroyed”.

The warrior flag is flown in many part of the world by people who resist tyranny and totalitarianism. The designer of the flag, Karonhiaktajeh, originally called it a “unity flag”. It was the settlers who called it “a warrior flag”. On April 20th 2006 when the Ontario Provincial Police tried to invade Six Nations and beat up our women and children, they awoke the lions. Those flags went up right across Canada. Not one group, band council or anyone condemned it. They knew that what we did was right. The propaganda to destroy our spirit was lost. There have been continuous weak attempts here and there to defame us.

Karonhiaktajeh

Karonhiaktajeh was a mentor to the Rotisken’ra:kete. He was vilified during his lifetime. Now he is revered and has become a legend because he adhered to the philosophy of the Great Law. His book, “The Warrior’s Handbook”, has been read by many Rotisken’ra:kete everywhere.

The warriors had become dormant for sometime. But they always existed underground. When the women resisted the imposition of the Indian Act in Kahnawake in 1889, the warriors were right there behind the women when they made objections to the government. They were always there supporting the people who stood up for the Great Law.

It all started back in Kahnawake in the 1950’s with the formation of the Singing Society. We know that the place of the Rotisken’ra:kete is imbedded in the Great Law. In our past the Rotisken’ra:kete were always respected.

The young Rotisken’ra:kete went to the traditional council in Kahnawake. We needed guidance from the older people. We found very few around to help us. Many had forgotten the traditional role of the men in Indigenous society. Many had put our history aside.

Historically

Historically warriors have been outstanding soldiers. This is only one aspect. There are examples like the battle of Chateauguay where 250 Mohawks stood against 7000 Americans and repelled them. There are many other instances such as when 80 stood against 2500 at Queenston Heights while the British ran away north to St. Catharines Ontario. At Michilimakinac only a few canoe loads of warriors fought against thousands. Many colonists did not want to fight the Rotisken’ra:kete. Some adversaries would just give up and leave. The only real adversaries were other
Indigenous nations. Both nations respected the specific rules of war as outlined in the Kaianereh’ko:wa/Great Law of Peace. The Law states that the “war is not over until it is won”. Many make the mistake of saying, “We will fight until we die”. But it is really, “We will fight until we win”.

Many of our tactics were imitated by the settler society. Guerilla warfare was adopted by the Europeans. For example, the elite covering themselves in black so as not be seen in the forest is one of our tactics.

Peace is Warrior goal

We always look towards peace throughout any of our battles. There is always a plan for peace. This does not mean making another nation subservient. It means that the nation we fight must understand that we will fight them until they agree to live peacefully with us under the Great Law.

We never set out to destroy the other nation. They must agree to live in peace and equality. If not, then we absorb them and they are no more. No nation wanted that.

If they agreed to the peace, they would retain their language, culture, government, land and ways.

In our minds, we always wanted to make peace. If the adversary did not want to make peace with us, then the black wampum string would be dropped. This meant that we would then fight until we won. The war is not over until we win. In 1784 the United States sued the Confederacy for peace. This is because they had done so much harm to the Confederacy, so we continued to fight with the newly formed United States. Being a peaceful minded people we agreed to enter into a peaceful agreement with them which we have lived up to and they continue to violate.

The Rensken’ra:kete is not a soldier for the king. He is a soldier of all the People. His name comes from okenra tsi rokete – the soil that he carries in his pouch to remind him of who he is – a son, a man, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather. It reminds him what his duties are as a man. He must show utmost respect to the female. The two combined – the male and female – is the continuation of life. He carries the soil in his pouch which he hangs around his neck. When he is away he touches this to remind himself of the land and the people he comes from.

Ganistensera

All the warrior’s power begins with his mother – ganistensera. He is connected to her through the onerista, the navel. This is how he is connected to all the women relatives on his mother’s side. The istenha is the one who carried him and gave him life. That is who his “creator” is.

Importance of the clans

The clans oversee the development of all the children. They watch the children closely throughout their lives. Each one has brought some qualities and gifts with them to help the people. We don’t know what these are. So we must watch them and help them reveal their special gifts to us.

We looked for qualities in each child. For example, Ayonwatha’s family is the record and wampum keeper. The young men learn all the rituals they need to have a strong memory. The Tekarihoken family are the Turtle. They are taught to be neutral and to look at all sides. The Wolf listens to both sides. The War Chief comes out of the Wolf family. Once he takes that position he must carry himself as though he has no clan because he is there for all the clans. He is given the title of Ayonwes who interacts with the outside nations. The clan mother of the Tekarihoken carries the title of the Tehatirihoken. They learn how to separate things and identify the elements for what they are. They examine everything totally. If a Royaner/chief should die, they can replace him immediately. The chiefs are trained and raised for certain titles. Every clan has particular attributes. It is everyone’s responsibility to develop them.

Our Clan Mothers

Te-ha-ti-ka-on-ion are the people who observe these young people and find the ones with special qualities. Both boys and girls are trained for basic responsibilities and for particular duties. They must all learn the basic aspects of Indigenous life. Some are found to be better than others in carrying out certain responsibilities. The women are especially adept at finding the required qualities in a young person to be trained for certain duties. Some might have knowledge but not the temperament. By observing them, their special qualities emerge and come to the surface. This becomes clear to the community as to what talents this young person brought with him or her to help their people.

Our Women Relatives

In their early years, the young males spend all their time with their women relatives. This enables them to know the duties and responsibilities of the women. They develop a profound respect for the women and all people. They also spend a lot of time with their grandparents, listening to them, looking for plants, animals and fruits. The whole process of developing their observation skills starts from birth. (to be continued…)

MNN Series. THE PATH HOME: 1. “Warriors”: (Tekarontakeh)

MNN Series. THE PATH HOME: 1. “Warriors”: (Tekarontakeh)MNN. June 28, 2006. What is a warrior? One does not become a warrior because he is a young person. Creation mandated this as a duty and responsibility. It is the most natural part of nature. It is based on the instinct to survive. All species, humans, insects, animals, birds and every species of life has this instinct. Without it, there would be no life. Spirituality is the natural spirit to live. It is not man-made.

Where is this reinforced in our culture? A warrior has to know our laws and ways. When he is asked, “Who are you?” Can he answer in his language? A warrior is brought to the people during one of the four appropriate traditional festivals. He receives his name through the naming ceremony. When his name is announced to the people, then he becomes part of the community. This is the political side of it. This is the first step in becoming a warrior.

Then he remembers how he was raised by his mother after his birth. How his relatives took care of him until his voice changed. Until that time he always had his grandmothers and grandfathers around him. They brought the philosophy and principles of our culture to him. The women fed him, clothed him and made him comfortable, strong and healthy.

As his voice began to change, it was a sign to the old ones that it was time to start the next phase of his education. His uncles on his mother’s side took him. He went through a fast to seek his protection and medicine. When he received it, then his medicine bag was made for him. After he receives it, this is his protection. His umbilical cord, which has been saved since his birth, is returned to him by his grandmother and placed in his medicine bag. Through his woman relatives, the soil of the earth is put into his medicine bag by his mother or grandmother. He always wears it to remind him of who he is and what is his protection.

Now he is ready to learn his duties, responsibilities and obligations to his people.

He begins his physical training. He trains before sunrise every morning. His uncles awaken him to start running in the forest as far and as hard as he can. He stops at high noon. His stamina increases every day. Finally he is able to run from sunrise until high noon without stopping. During that time he sees something different within nature around him. He sees the night creatures as they go to get their rest. He sees the flowers open up, the birds start to sing and the day insects come out. Every day he sees and learns something new. All the while he is building his body and developing his mind.

Once he does this, he is taken into other advanced areas of learning. He is taught how to defend himself, to wrestle and other endurance building sports and activities. For example, our people had a highly developed knowledge of the science of physical development. Our ancestors knew how to pass down this knowledge. The early Europeans were amazed at the highly advanced physical and mental development of our people.

The grandfathers and uncles teach him more about his responsibilities under the Kaianereh’ko:wa/Great Law of Peace. Prior to this it was explained to him by his women relatives in a symbolic way. The men then help him put the laws, culture and traditions into actual practice. As he gets older, he starts learning the adult version and its realities. Our people knew that our young people had to learn in stages.

Symbolism is deciphered and applied to his every day life, in governance, responsibilities and his continuing development. This is the path to becoming a warrior.

Each man is different. Each is an individual. Each has to learn how to work with others. The formula for working together has always been in the Kaianereh’ko:wa. When a young man proclaims he is a warrior, he must have this knowledge. He can’t go by assumptions. He has to learn and accept the truth and the reality of his responsibility. This is the most difficult part for people – to accept and apply the truth.

The Kaianereh’ko:wa is based on truth and nature. It is skenna, kariwiio and kastatsensera (peace, righteousness and power).

The thousands of years of knowledge, experience and answers are all there in the Kaianereh’ko:wa. It has traveled the proven path and retraces the steps of our ancestors. It doesn’t matter the time in history. Truths never change. One has to begin by respecting ourselves and knowing what respect is. All can learn to treat everyone with respect. But true respect is given to those who earn it. Respect can be shown to everyone no matter what opinion they hold. It is the respectable thing to do.

Today we have people who criticize the warriors. For most it is simply because they weren’t raised this way. For some critics it’s a political agenda. Circumstances have made it so our young and older men were not raised in the traditional way. It doesn’t mean they can’t learn these teachings. We shouldn’t criticize the warriors of today because they did not grow up with this knowledge. Even though some of the elders failed to teach them, they are doing the best they can to carry out their duties and responsibilities. They are putting their lives and safety on the line on behalf of our people. This criticism could cause great disillusionment.

In many of our struggles the warriors have lost their families, jobs, careers, and sometimes even their life. Remember Dudley George and all those AIM warriors who were killed, many through the agencies of the United States government. They were without exception doing what they could for the future survival of our people. They fought for our lands and our natural human rights. They did everything they could to protect us. We have to admire and respect these men and women, even though the colonist have labeled them as thugs, goons and terrorists. Our warriors have worked very hard to maintain peace. They have never gone out to kill or hurt anybody. They never caused the harm they’ve been labeled with.

We are being made ashamed of those of our young men who would actually stand and defend our nation, our government and our people. We are told to be look away from all those sacred values that were passed down to us by our ancestors. We should not turn our backs on those who stand for those values that were given to us thousands of years ago.

Today we are having difficulty dealing with those who have turned their backs on us. These people are like a disease, such as one that is causing so much wrong and harm to our people. They are like the diabetes that has affected 80% of the Onkwehonwe people. We know the cause of diabetes. Very few change their eating habits which would start the process to recovery. It’s the same with our spies and traitors. We know how they are killing and hurting our nations. Just like diabetes, we know the cure. Yet we are not taking the time to rid ourselves of these diseases.

Something is holding us back. It is a germ that was implanted in our minds by those who came here from across the ocean. They knew that anybody who had a healthy mind could not be controlled. They needed to weaken our minds. We have to look at what we call the “brain”. It’s called “o-ni-gon-ra” meaning “it takes care of you”, “it watches over you”. The brain is the center of our survival. It controls everything. If our mind is strong, everything about us will become strong. Our ancestors knew that. Our mind should always be used to do what is good for all.

Due to this lack of knowledge among our people about our ways, we are encouraged to make decisions based on our emotions. The colonists have sent people among us who tell us, “Listen to our heart”, go on emotion, rather than using our brain. He doesn’t want us to exercise our brain. He wants us to think with our heart which is not an organ that is made to think. It is our mind that is made for thinking. Elders say, “Let us gather our minds together and become one mind”. They never say, “Let us gather our hearts together”. They know that is not the purpose of the heart. We use our mind to help us survive. Thinking is the traditional foundation of being a warrior.

MOHAWK WARRIOR “LASAGNA”

RON CROSS DIED 5 YEARS AGO – VETERAN OF 1990 MOHAWK CRISIS AT OKAMNN. Dec. 12, 2004. At 11:00 p.m. on Nov. 1st Lasagna Ron Cross, 41 years of age, died of heart failure. He was the Mohawk Warrior made famous during the Oka Crisis of 1990. He was seen daily on the media standing up to the Quebec Provincial Police and the Canadian Army in defense of Mohawk land and sovereignty. He left an imprint in everybody’s mind: a hero to some and a villain to others.

Canada and Quebec wanted to pacify his irrepressible spirit, his bravado. But he remained true to himself. His spirit was an example to others in their own struggles. Had he caved in, it would have discouraged others. Although he did not intend it, someone always stands out in such a crisis. He was it.

It was Wednesday, September 26, 1990. The siege had lasted 78 days. Lasagna was one of 52 men, women and children and 10 journalists who marched out of the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre at Oka Quebec. It was one of the gravest political confrontations in modern Canadian history.

The Army, the police and the media had targeted Lasagna. The Canadian soldiers were jealous of him. The police wanted his blood. Canada and Quebec wanted him to pay for the Mohawks upsetting them. For a moment he wanted to stay behind and “look after himself”, but the others talked him out of it. Together they walked out of the Centre to freedom, singing their Mohawk victory song. As soon as they crossed over the stretcher that had been placed on the razor wire, several soldiers grabbed Lasagna and began to kick, punch and beat him with their fists, army boots and guns. He was beaten several times by the SQ. Later he brought charges against four Quebec police. They had dressed up in army clothes. He won the case. Amnesty International condemned this beating worldwide. Many believe that this vicious beating caused so much internal injuries that it contributed to his early death.

Lasagna’s trial came up in St. Jerome Quebec in September 1991. It lasted almost a year. Joining him as defendants were two other warriors, Gordon ‘Noriega’ Lazore and Roger ‘20-20’ Lazore. The proceedings of the trial were published in a book “Mohawk Warriors Three” by Kahentinetha Horn. Also, he won a Supreme Court of Canada decision to have his trial in English rather than French.

It is a significant trial. The three warriors did not recognize the jurisdiction of the white man’s court and remained silent throughout. They said nothing from the beginning, throughout the trial and afterwards. They did not put in a defense. They allowed the jury to decide their fate.

In the end only Lasagna served a prison sentence. The only charge that stood was his involvement in the beating of Mohawk informant to the police, Francis Jacobs. He was released from prison two months prior to his death. At the construction site on the Champlain Bridge in Montreal, he felt ill and decided to sit in his car. His friends checked on him twice, the second time he was found dead. He is survived by his wife, Nadine, four sons and grandchildren. Since the 1990 crisis the following men who were in the compound with him have died: Thomas “the General” Paul, Leroy “Splinter” Gabriel, Todd Diabo, Joe “Stone Carver” David, and “Mad Jap”.

On November 3rd, 1999, Lasagna Ron Cross was laid to rest in the graveyard of Long House 207 at Kahnawake Mohawk Territory ( Quebec Canada ).
